Community
Community – Engage:
We are proud of being part of our local community. And acknowledge the impact in partnership work created by local people, their ideas and invovlment.
80 percent of our community work is engaging young people age 14 to 24 years in various projects, usually implemented by the same age group.
Engaging young people within the local community has an impact of early intervention work.
The meeting centre can be hired out at a subsidised rate or if possible a no charge policy.
Activities:
We run a wide range of different activities for young people in the community which you can see by browsing our website. As one of the most flexible and creative training organisations in the area we can provide everything from just a few taster workshops to 3-year long programmes and everything in between. Accredited courses run for a minimum of 12 hours while the longer-term programmes are constructed from a range of accredited courses.
Youth Inclusion:
We are a strong believer in listening to young people who come to our centre. Young people are the future and bloodline of our centre, so must have the chance to develop and have a voice in all we do.
We reach a broad cross section of young people, secondary school pupils, hard to reach children who are unlikely to have engaged in formal education, employment or training. Our non-formal learning courses are a fantastic vehicle to get young people back into a learning environment, away from destructive influences. As well as participation on the courses, we offer young people progression routes in the form of work placements, scholarships and links to industry employers.
Internet access:
We provide free internet use for the community. No need to book, it is on a first come first serve basis.
If a people are waiting to go on-line there will be time limitations.
Please see duty manager for more information and times.
Bringing communities together through sport.
Fitness Engage - Include me!
Is an initiative to provide specially structured non-contact boxing fitness sessions as an opportunity for young people and their parent-carers to bond by jointly engaging in a sporting activity together.
This course was kindly funded by LAA funding in partnership with City of York Council.
All for one – One for all – Include me!
Introducing the “All 4 One – One 4 All” core target age group (7-13 years) to a sport or recreational activity allows them to develop new skills, create mental growth and set long-term goals for health at an age when young people can be influenced in taking the “wrong path” in life
This course was kindly funded by YorOk Early intervention fund in partnership with City of York Council.
From additions to coaching – Include me!
Bringing coaching qualifications to young people now free from addictions. Referred onto the course through partnerships, young people have gained ABAE coaching qualifications
This course was kindly funded by YorKash in partnership with City of York Council.
Volunteer Young Coaches Foundation – Include me!
A brand new project for 2010. Young people coaching will benefit individuals to achieve personal goals, and maintain and create new community classes. The idea for this project came from a simple question asked by one of our young boxers “Whose going to teach us when you die!” Hopefully I’ll be still here for a long time yet! But it raised the question, which was put to our Young Persons Committee.
The project will increase our capacity to create more fitness classes, which the volunteers will run, supported by qualified ABAE coaches.
This course was kindly funded by Youth Community Action Pilot in partnership with City of York Council.
